30 Day Disney Challenge- Day 18

Least Favorite Classic

Pinocchio

I hate anything having to do with the words "least favorite" and "Disney", but if I had to pick one, it would have to be the story about the little wooden puppet. I have nothing against this movie really, I think it's just the fact that when I was little I refused to watch any movie without a princess in it (except for The Lion King). And the scene at the end with all the boys in Pleasure Island turning into Donkey's sort of freaked me out. Oh, and Stromboli sort of terrified me.

Honorable Mention: The Jungle Book (I enjoy the music to this movie, but other than that I never really cared for it as much as I did other Disney movies).

30 Day Disney Challenge- Day 17

Favorite Classic

Peter Pan

I love the story of Peter Pan, and the idea of flying away to a Neverland and never having to grow up. This movie was an excellent adaptation of the novel, in my opinion, and produced an iconic Disney character that would become the symbol for the company (Tinkerbell!). I also love the theme that surrounds the ticking crocodile, which was mentioned in the movie Finding Neverland- the notion that "time is chasing after all of us." This movie had everything- adventure, pirates, mermaids, and a little bit of pixie dust.

Honorable Mention: Cinderella (Cinderella is one of my favorite "classic" princesses and, of course, her story is timeless).

30 Day Disney Challenge- Day 16

First Movie You Saw

Beauty and the Beast

This was my very first movie that I saw in the movie theaters. I was around the age of three, I think, and from what my parents tell me I was terrified of the beast.

Honorable Mention: The Little Mermaid (pretty sure this deserves a mention as the first Disney movie I actually owned, but I was too young to see it in theaters when it came out. This is movie is only a few months younger than I am).

In actual Disney news, my recruiter called me today. My heart almost dropped out of my chest when he told me that there was some changes regarding my offer, but he immediately said not to worry, that it wasn't being rescinded. Whew! With my heart rate returning to normal, he explained that they wanted to extend my end date by a month. So instead of leaving in June as originally planned, I will be staying until July. This, he said, was so that I could be able to stay and help train the new presenters when the next batch of interns arrive for the fall PI. I am still incredibly excited, and January seems so far away!

30 Day Disney Challenge- Day 15

Favorite Kiss

Belle and the Beast

How can you beat a kiss that both breaks a spell and creates fireworks? I love how their kiss is portrayed so passionately, how they start out all tentative and unsure, but then as soon as their lips meet they cling to each other as if for dear life. I love how the music swells into that happy crescendo and how the wind sweeps their hair off of their faces. Okay, I'm getting a little too sappy now, but I really love this kiss.

Honorable Mention: Jane and Tarzan (I think it's so sweet how she leaps off the boat into his arms, and how he tenderly but firmly cups her face in his hands. So beautiful).

30 Day Disney Challenge- Day 14

Least Favorite Song

Lester's Possum Park (A Goofy Movie)

True, this song was meant to be revolting so it's kind of a cop out, but I still skip over this song every time it comes up when my iPod's on shuffle. Don't ask why it's even on my iPod to begin with, there's not a good answer.

Honorable Mention: We Are Siamese from Lady and the Tramp (no reason really, this song just always irks me...and no, I don't please).

30 Day Disney Challenge- Day 13

Favorite Villain Song

Heaven's Light/Hellfire (Hunchback of Notre Dame)

"Destroy Esmerelda, and let her taste the fires of hell, or else let her be mine and mine alone..."

I just love the contrast in this song- the lightness at the beginning when Quasimodo is comparing Esmerelda to a heavenly being, and then Frollo singing about her as a siren cast from hell. I read this in another blog once, and I think it's true- this is one of the only villain songs where the villain isn't bragging about his powers and his inevitability in taking over the world or defeating the hero. Instead, he's singing about his repressed sexual desire, and how he's torn between lusting after Esmerelda and living up to his holy reputation. Pure evil, and pure genius.

Honorable Mention: Mother Knows Best (Reprise) (I love how the music abrubtly changes after "oh, I see how it is!" and the way her voice reaches that scary pitch on "if he's lying, DON'T come crying!!!")

30 Day Disney Challenge- Day 12

Favorite Love Song

A Whole New World

This song always gives me the chills. Since I first saw the movie, it has always been my dream for a guy to take me on a magic carpet ride. Brad Kane and Lea Salonga's voice are perfect together, and compared with Alan Menken's music and the incredible animation of Agrabah at night, just makes this the perfect love song in my eyes.

Honorable Mention: Kiss the Girl (I love Sebastien's voice as he sings the first lyric, "There you see her...sitting there across the way...").

30 Day Disney Challenge- Day 11

Favorite Song

I See the Light (from Tangled)

This was a super hard one, as I currently have over 800 songs in my Disney playlist and love them all. However, if I'm forced to choose only one, then I'd have to choose this song from Tangled. I love Mandy Moore's voice, and this song paired with the floating lantern scene is just a beautiful piece of Disney cinema. I love the way Mandy's and Zachary Levi's voices harmonize on the last chorus. This song is currently the ringtone on my phone, and it makes me happy every time I hear it. Anything by Alan Menken is pure gold.

Honorable Mention: Strangers Like Me (I love the lyrics in this song, and Phil Collins just has an amazing voice. I could listen to this song over and over again).

30 Day Disney Challenge- Day 10

Favorite Original Character

Minnie Mouse

I love mickey's main squeeze- she's so cute and flirty and fun, and seems like someone who could be your best friend. Plus, she has the best outfits.

Honorable Mention: Pluto (no real reason, just always thought he was so cute and lovable).

30 Day Disney Challenge- Day 9

Favorite Couple

Rapunzel and Flynn

I just love the two of them together. I love the fact that they're so playful and adventurous. Sometimes I really wish that I could hang out with them. Okay, all the time.

Honorable Mention: Jasmine and Aladdin (I love Jas and Al's relationship, especially after watching the animated series when I was a kid. Plus, I love how the face characters interact in the parks).

30 Day Disney Challenge- Day 8

Favorite Villain

Hades

"He was as mean as he was ruthless, and that's the Gospel Truth..."

There are so many fantastic villains in the Disney universe.....sometimes I think I love them more than the main characters! But out of all my favorites (Scar, Jafar, Ursula, Mother Gothel just to name a few) I think the honor of "favorite" would have to go to the Lord of the Dead himself. I love his sense of humor and his pure, unforgiving evilness. He's cunning and manipulative, but he makes me laugh. And he has the coolest hair out of all the villains, by far.

Honorable Mention: Gaston (in my opinion, he has the best male singing voice I've ever heard).
